Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program here at GR is Instructed by Jeff Starr who is a Black Belt under Relson Gracie. Our Team has won many competitions and fights thanks to this program.
It doesn't matter whether you intend to compete, are training for fun, or fitness we are here to help you meet your goals.
The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes will teach you to use your whole body as a weapon. Since attacks, movements and changes in position can occur without a
person physically seeing what their opponent is doing, "sensitivity" is a
major part of BJJ; therefore, time spent on the mat is of the utmost
importance. BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and
no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Sparring and live
drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)
focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of
gaining a dominant position from which to force an attacker to submit
via chokes, joint-locks, etc.... It promotes the principle that a
smaller, weaker person using proper technique can successfully defend
themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant.
find that this is one of the most challenging yet rewarding things that
you will ever do. BJJ
will teach you to rely on yourself, to value the input of others, and
most importantly to respect both your own skills and those of others.
Equipment/Gear needed - In the BJJ class participants must wear a gi, a mouth piece, and a cup. If you can't get a gi right away shorts and a t-shirt will suffice but you will not be getting the most out of the training or be able to get promoted when the time comes.
This class is offered three times per week; Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
